WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. - After not allowing a hit until there were two outs in the top of the seventh, the Hudson Valley Renegades fell 1-0 to the Rome Braves on Friday night at Heritage Financial Park. With a loss by the Greensboro Grasshoppers, the Renegades maintained their first-place lead in the SAL North at two games with four games left to play in the first half, and saw their magic number to clinch a playoff spot shrink to three.

Renegades all-time strikeout leader Matt Sauer returned to the Hudson Valley on a Minor League rehab assignment and struck out five across 2.0-plus no-hit innings. However, he had to navigate around some traffic on the bases as he issued three walks, though all runners were stranded on base. It was the third outing of the season for Sauer, who previously made two rehab appearances with the FCL Yankees.

Ryan Anderson entered in the third and retired all nine batters he faced. Jack Neely relieved him and combined with Anderson to retire 14 Braves in a row until Geraldo Quintero hit a bloop double down the left field line with two outs in the seventh inning to break up the no-hitter.

The best run-scoring chance for the Renegades came in the fourth. Alexander Vargas reached on an error and Antonio Gómez was hit by a pitch to begin the inning. Braves starter Tyler Owens then retired the next three batters to end the scoring threat.

Rome finally broke through on the scoreboard in the eighth. After Horne struck out swinging at a ball in the dirt, he reached first base on a Neely (2-1) wild pitch to start the frame. With Nick Paciorek summoned from the bullpen after the walk, he then stole second and advanced to third on a Brandon Parker flyout to centerfield. With two outs in the inning, Horne scored on a wild pitch thrown by Nick Paciorek to score the game's lone run.

Rolddy Munoz (4-1) came in to relieve Owens and tossed the final five innings. Munoz retired nine of the last 10 Renegades in the contest to snap the Renegades' win streak at three games.

Saturday night was the third 1-0 loss for the Renegades of the season, all in their last 14 games. Two of those losses came when their opponent scored an unearned run, as was the case on Saturday. The Renegades and Braves wrap up their six-game series on Sunday afternoon at Heritage Financial Park. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. with coverage on the Renegades Baseball Network beginning at 1:45 p.m. The Renegades will send RHP Drew Thorpe (5-1, 2.91) to the mound opposite of RHP Hunter Riggins (3-2, 3.48) for the Braves.

Renegades Record: 36-26
