Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Hudson Valley Musters Only Four Singles in Shutout LossSTATEN ISLAND, NY-- The Renegades only managed four hits against Yankee starter Adonis Garcia as Staten Island cruised to a 7-0 win over Hudson Valley on Tuesday night at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. It was the Renegades' seventh loss in their last eight games.
The Yankees started the scoring in the third. After singles by leftfielder Kendall Coleman and Nick Solak put runners at first and third with one out, rightfielder Dalton Blaser (1) stepped to the plate and lined a three-run homer over the rightfield wall to give Staten Island a 3-0 lead. It was the first homer allowed by the Renegades this season.
Staten Island added to their lead in the fourth. First baseman Drew Bridges led off with a single, then moved to second on a passed ball. After getting to third on a base hit, Bridges scored after a pickoff attempt at third by Renegade catcher Danny De La Calle caromed off of Bridges into leftfield. The first baseman came in to score and it was 4-0 Yankees as De La Calle was charged with an error on the play.
The Baby Bombers scored another run in the fifth. Second baseman Nick Solak led off with a single, then moved to third when he stole second and advanced another base when the throw from De La Calle went into centerfield. Solak would score on an RBI single by third baseman Mandy Alvarez to make the score 5-0.
The Yankees capped their scoring with a two-run sixth. Bridges led off with a double, then a walk to centerfielder Timmy Robinson put runners at first and second. Following a strikeout, shortstop Danienger Perez singled in Bridges and moved Robinson to second. After a fielder's choice put runners at first and second with two out, Blaser hit a little dribbler up the third base line that was fielded and thrown away by Renegades third baseman Jim Haley. That allowed Robinson to score from second and give Staten Island a 7-0 lead.
The Renegades never really threatened as they had four singles for the game and only one runner reached second base.
Hudson Valley gave up a season-high 13 hits as Blaser and Bridges each had three hits. Blaser went 3-5 with a homer, two singles and three RBI. Bridges went 3-4 with two doubles, a single and two runs scored.
Adonis Rosa (1-0) got the win for the Yankees after he tossed seven shutout innings, allowing four hits, no walks, and striking out seven. Taking the loss for Hudson Valley was Adrian Navas who allowed five runs, three earned; he gave up nine hits and struck out six in 4.1 innings of work.
Hudson Valley returns to Dutchess Stadium tomorrow for the finale of their three-game series with the Yankees. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. Right-hander Eduar Lopez (0-1, 3.60 ERA) will take the hill for the Renegades against righty Drew Finley (0-0, 2.31 ERA) for the Yankees. For tickets, call 845-838-0094 or go to hvrenegades.com.
