Reliever Mayckol Guaipe Added to All-Star Roster

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. (JUNE 9, 2014) - Today the Southern League announced that Jackson right-handed reliever Mayckol Guaipe (Michael WHY-pay) has been added to the North All-Star roster. Guaipe becomes the third Jackson All-Star and second member of the bullpen joining right-hander Stephen Kohlscheen and shortstop Ketel Marte. The game will be played at AT&T Field in Chattanooga on June 17.

Guaipe, 23 is currently has a 1.85 ERA. He has saved four of the six opportunities which ranks him second on the team. Guaipe is 1-1, with 31 strikeouts and 7 walks, holding opponents to a .189 batting average.

He has not allowed a run in 16 of his 20 appearances and has not allowed a run in 6.0 consecutive innings. Guaipe is fourth among relievers in the league in batting average against as opponents are hitting just .190 against the right hander. He has been especially dominant against righties this season as they are only hitting .181 with 21 strikeouts. He is also fifth in the league in lowest walks per nine innings pitched at 1.86 and is second in the league in fewest base runners per nine innings at 8.53. The Venezuelan native was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Mariners in October, 2006.

The game will be played at AT&T Field in Chattanooga on June 17. It is scheduled to begin at 7:15 pm EST and can be seen on milb.tv.
