Wichita Wingnuts News Release
KANSAS CITY, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts defeated the Kansas City T-Bones 10-6 at Community America Ballpark on Saturday night.
For a second straight game, the Wingnuts overcame a late, two-run deficit to come away with the win. The Wingnuts improved to 8-0 on the road.
Trailing 6-4 in the top of the eighth, Juan Richardson drew a seven-pitch walk to lead off. C.J. Ziegler followed with a monstrous two-run homer down the left field line to tie the game. It was Ziegler's second home run of the night. David Peralta started a new rally with a bloop single to right-center and took third when Mitch Einertson ripped a double down into the left field corner. After Taylor Freeman was struck out by reliever Steven Kent, Steve Carrillo drew a pinch hit walk to load the bases with one out. Right-hander Lucas Irvine was summoned from the bullpen and threw a wild pitch on his first offering to Ryan Khoury to give the Wingnuts a 7-6 lead. Khoury then drove a sacrifice fly to right-center that scored Einertson.
Wichita added two more runs in the ninth. With two outs and no one on base, Ziegler doubled to left field. Peralta hit a chopper up the middle that was gloved behind the second base bag by shortstop Jose Duran. Duran's throw to first went into foul territory and allowed Ziegler to score, while Peralta was credited with an infield single. Einertson plated Peralta with a hit-and-run double to right.
Edgar Martinez and Matt Nevarez combined for two scoreless innings over the eighth and ninth to close out the win.
John Rodriguez hit a solo home run to right-center in the top of the first that gave the Wingnuts an early 1-0 lead. Kansas City tied the game in the bottom half on a sacrifice fly from Ray Sadler.
Ziegler hit the first of his two home runs leading off the second. Wichita added a third run in the top of the third when Khoury scored from second on a base hit to right by Jake Kahaulelio.
Brandon Jones slugged a three-run home run in the bottom of the third to give the T-Bones a brief 4-3 advantage.
Taylor Freeman re-tied the game in the top of the fourth with a two-out, RBI double to right-center.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh when the T-Bones used a wild pitch and an RBI single from Devin Goodwin to go in front 6-4.
