Kyle Wilson pitched seven innings and the RailCats came back from down three runs to win the series finale 5-4 against Newark on Sunday afternoon. The win clinched a series victory for the RailCats who took three out of the four games.
The RailCats comeback began in the fifth. Adam Klein led off by reaching base on a hit by pitch and Mike Massaro followed with a bunt single. With one out, Craig Maddox delivered an infield single of his own that scored Klein and brought the RailCats to within 4-2. Mike Rohde's sacrifice fly to center field made it 4-3.
The next inning, Brian Kolb led off with a single and scored on a David Cooper triple that tied the game at four apiece. Klein delivered what turned out to be the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly of his own.
Juan Martinez walked and scored in the first to put the Newark Bears up 1-0 early. The RailCats came back to tie it in the bottom half of the inning with a Maddox RBI single that scored Adam Klein.
Newark put up a three-spot against starter Wilson in the fourth inning. Eric McGee singled to lead off the inning, but with two outs, a ball got passed Kolb at third that led to three unearned runs. After a run scored on the error, Dan Coury doubled off the wall and Matt Tomczyk hit a single to left to put the Bears up 4-1.
Wilson pitched a season-high seven innings, allowing four runs, one of which were earned. He also struck out a season-high four batters.
The Wichita Wingnuts come to U. S. Steel Yard Monday to start a three-game set. Derek Drage (2-1, 4.85) will go for the RailCats and take on right-hander Jose Perez.
