Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, announced the signing of left winger, Kevin Estrada.
Estrada, 29, joins the Reign from playing in Europe since the 2008-09 season. The forward's last professional season was spent with the Swiss league's Langenthal. He recorded two points, both goals, in seven games. Estrada split his 2008-09 season between the Kassel Huskies (DEL) and Herlev Hornets (Denmark). In 43 contests, Estrada recorded 28 points (6g, 22a) and 114 penalty minutes.
Since 2005, the Surrey British Columbia native split his seasons between AHL and ECHL teams. His 2005-06 season was mostly spent with the AHL's Lowell Lock Monsters, tallying 15 points (5g, 10a) in 59 games, and the ECHL's Florida Everblades, recording six points (1g, 5a) in seven games. In similar fashion, Estrada spent the majority of his 2006-07 season in the AHL, 53 games scoring nine points (2g, 7a) with the Albany River Rats and 3 games with the Everblades. The 2007-08 season brought Estrada to Victoria to play with the ECHL's Salmon Kings for 59 games where he recorded 48 points (18g, 30a). He was brought up to the AHL to play nine games with the Manitoba Moose where he recorded one goal and one assist.
Prior to playing at the professional level, Estrada played for Michigan State University for four years 2001-05. In his first year with Michigan, Estrada was picked by the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes in the third round, number 91 overall, of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
