Stockton Thunder News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, a two-time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," announced over $40,000 was raised from "Thunder Goes Pink VI" and the team's participation in "Movember," which helped raise funds in the fight against breast cancer and support of men's health respectively.
Thunder Goes Pink VI, presented by St. Joseph's Medical Center in association with BloodSource, Union Bank and Food-4-Less, was a two day event from Nov. 4-5 at Stockton Arena, centering around two games against the Utah Grizzlies which turned the ice surface, jerseys and arena exterior lights into a pink hue to symbolize the fight against breast cancer.
On Saturday morning, the Thunder hosted its second annual Thunder Goes Pink 5K Run/Walk for 420 registered participants, who ran or walked the streets of downtown Stockton for the cause, warmed up with members of the Thunder and received prizes for their participation.
A total of $38,000 in fundraising from ticket sales, silent auction items and the team's postgame "jersey off the back" auction following Saturday's game benefitted the St. Joseph's Foundation "" Breast Cancer Services. The two games drew a total of 15,205 fans to Stockton Arena and over 105,000 fans have had their hearts and lives touched by the event since it began in 2006-07.
Members of the Thunder, including players, coaches and staff, grew moustaches for the entire month as a symbol to change the face of men's health and fight cancer among males for "Movember." The event included participation from teams in the ECHL, American Hockey League and National Hockey League.
Together, the Thunder helped raise $2,825 through solicited online donations that benefit Movember's U.S. campaign beneficiaries, the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) and LIVESTRONG, the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
