Elmira Jackals News Release

The ECHL announced on Tuesday that Elmira Jackals goaltender Brian Stewart has been named the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Nov. 28 - Dec. 4. Stewart is the fifth Jackals goaltender in the club's ECHL history to garner this award, and the first of 2011-2012.

The 26-year old Stewart was 4-0-0-0 over the past week with a save percentage of .937 and a goals-against average of 1.88. Stewart made 21 saves on 23 shots and was 3/3 in the shootout in the Jackals' 3-2 victory in Reading on Wednesday. On Friday, Stewart stopped 38 of 42 Trenton bids and then turned aside all four Titans' attempts in the shootout in Elmira's 5-4 win at First Arena. Stewart allowed one goal on 29 Royals' shots on Saturday as the Jackals prevailed on home ice, 3-1. The Burnaby, British Columbia native closed out the week with a 31-save outing on Sunday in Trenton before denying the Titans on their four shootout tries as the Jackals ended their perfect week with a 2-1 win.

In his professional career, Stewart is 8-0 in shootouts between the ECHL and the AHL. Stewart has not allowed a goal on 21 attempts in five career ECHL shootouts. He made 12 saves on 16 bids with the AHL's Adirondack Phantoms in three shootout appearances last season.

This season, Stewart is 8-3-0-0 with a .920 save percentage and a 2.62 goals-against average.

Stewart led the ECHL with a .927 save percentage in his rookie campaign of 2010-2011, playing primarily with the Bakersfield Condors and was named to the ECHL All-Rookie Team. He earned the ECHL's Goaltender of the Week award for the week ending Mar. 27, 2011 and was named the league's Rookie of the Month for March last season as well.

Stewart joins Dan LaCosta, Mitch O'Keefe, Julien Ellis, and Marco Cousineau as Jackals who have won this award. He is under contract with the Jackals' AHL affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.

The Jackals, winners of five-straight contests, continue their seven-game road trip on Wednesday in Florida. Elmira returns home to host Wheeling on Dec. 26 on 4-for-$44 night. To reserve your seats call (607) 734-PUCK (7825), visit the First Arena Box Office, or log onto JackalsHockey.com.
