Reign FC Ends Two-Game Road Trip in Kansas City on Saturday

SEATTLE - Seattle Reign FC heads to Kansas City take on FC Kansas City for the final meeting between the two teams this season. Reign FC head into the game undefeated in their past three matches.

The Reign (3-3-3, 12 points) are coming off of a 0-0 tie against Sky Blue FC, earning a clean sheet in three-straight matches for the first time in team history. Seattle also outshot their opponent for the third-straight match, with 14 total shots. Sky Blue notched 11 shots during the game.

The best chances for each team came within five minutes of each other in the first half of play, but the crossbar denied both teams.

In the 12th minute Sky Blue's Kelly Conheeney laid the ball off to Taylor Lytle just inside the box, and Lytle's initial shot hit off of the crossbar. Lytle was able to fire in a second shot off of the rebound, but Hope Solo was there to smother the chance.

Then in the 17th minute, it was Reign FC's turn to hit the crossbar. In a great buildup, Lauren Barnes slotted in Kim Little with a well placed through ball. Little dribbled to the end line and passed right to the feet of Jess Fishlock inside the six-yard box. Fishlock's attempt hit off the underside of the crossbar and was then cleared away by the Sky Blue defense to keep the match scoreless.

Little finished the game with four shots, but is still looking for her 30th career NWSL goal. Should Little score in Saturday's match against FC Kansas City, she would be the first player in league history to reach the 30 goal milestone. The midfielder is Reign FC's all-time leading goal scorer against FC Kansas City with 4 goals.

The Scottish international also scored in the most recent match against FC Kansas City this season, which was the only goal in a 1-0 win for Seattle. Manon Melis assisted Little's 56th minute goal. Seattle led Kansas City in shots (5 to 4), shots on goal (2 to 1), and corner kicks (3 to 1) in the match.

FC Kansas City (2-4-3, 9 points) will be looking extend their current three-game undefeated streak. During this run, Kansas City has scored 4 goals and allowed just 1 goal. The streak began with a 2-0 victory against the Orlando Pride on Saturday, May 28, which was the biggest win of the season for FC Kansas City.

After a 1-0 result against the Houston Dash this past weekend, FC Kansas City has moved past the Dash into 8th place on the NWSL table. Should FC Kansas City win, they would be tied with Reign FC with 12 points each.

Both teams are looking to go undefeated in the month of June, with a combined record of 2-0-2 between the two squads. Reign FC have an all-time record of 3-7-2 against FC Kansas City, going 2-1-0 in the last three regular-season meetings.

Depending on other results, a win on Saturday could move the Reign up two spots into fourth place.

Up next, Reign FC returns to Memorial Stadium to face the Boston Breakers on July 2 at 7:00 p.m. PT. Seattle will look maintain its undefeated all-time record of 8-0-1 against the Breakers. The previous meeting between the two teams was a 3-0 win for the Reign, which is the largest win of the season so far for Seattle.
