Sky Blue FC News Release

Tinton Falls, N.J. - Sky Blue FC (2-3-4, 10 points) will return to National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) action on Saturday night, playing a road fixture with the Washington Spirit (5-1-2, 17 points) at the Maryland SoccerPlex. Kickoff for the match is slated for 7:00 p.m. ET, and fans can watch all of the action live in HD via YouTube.

"We are looking forward to getting down to Washington and putting in a good performance on Saturday," said Christy Holly, Sky Blue FC head coach. "This game comes to us after our strongest showing of the year against Seattle last weekend. We have seen quite a bit of Washington, and we have a good understanding of what their strengths and weaknesses are. We have formulated a game plan that we know will provide us with a positive outcome if executed properly."

Sky Blue FC is unbeaten in each of its past three matches and is coming off one of its most impressive games of the season. Despite having to settle for a scoreless home draw against Seattle Reign FC last Sunday, the team spent much of the evening on their offensive half of the field and created numerous scoring opportunities. Combined with an NWSL Opening Weekend road win over Seattle, the New Jersey side took the season series, which could prove to be of extreme importance towards the end of the 2016 regular season.

Coming into this weekend, Washington has tasted defeat just once this year and arrives Saturday on the heels of a 2-0 defeat of the expansion Orlando Pride. Goals in the encounter were registered by forwards Estefania Banini and Francisca Ordega in the first half of play.

Saturday night marks the second meeting of the season between these two clubs, with the Spirit taking a 2-1 result at Yurcak Field back in late April. In that contest, Washington got out to a 2-0 advantage via tallies from Ali Krieger and Diana Matheson, with Maya Hayes bringing Sky Blue FC within a single notch in the second half.

Historically, Sky Blue FC is the leader in this rivalry with a record of 5-3-2, outscoring the Spirit, 15-13. The New Jersey club has also gotten the better of the two at the Maryland SoccerPlex with an overall resume of 2-1-2. However, Washington has won the last three overall meetings between these two teams.

Half-season, flex and individual tickets for Sky Blue FC are all on sale! For any questions regarding tickets, call the Sky Blue FC tickets department at 888-SBFC-TIX (888-723-2849), and a team representative will be happy to assist you.
