Ontario Reign News Release

STOCKTON, Calif.- The Ontario Reign (15-12-1-2), proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, earned a point in the standings with a 4-3 shootout loss to the Stockton Thunder (13-13-1-3) before 6,044 at Stockton Arena Saturday.

Kevin Baker put Stockton up 1-0 at 6:08 of the first period as he pulled the puck to his forehand from behind the Reign goal line and lifted it over Chris Carrozzi. Stockton nearly took a 2-0 lead a few minutes later when Mylan Kytnar appeared to have the right side of the net open, but Carrozzi stretched across the goal mouth to make the save.

The Reign stormed back and took the lead early in the second stanza. Bill Bagron tied the game at 1:41 as he was in the right place at the right time when the puck took an odd bounce off of the glass. Derek Couture tipped Chris Huxley's point shot past Olivier Roy for his team-leading sixteenth goal. Baker tied the game at two with his second goal of the game at 13:58.

Kytnar made up for his earlier miss with a goal at 4:52 of the third period to give the Thunder a 3-2 lead. Stockton frustrated Ontario's rush until 15:56 when Kevin Estrada scored a goal very similiar to Stockton's first of the night. Couture and C.J. Stretch worked the puck in low where Estrada pulled the puck from behind the Stockton goal line and backhanded it over Roy's extended pad to tie the game at three and force overtime.

Stockton had a chance to win it in the exrta frame after Adrian Van de Mosselaer drew a hooking penalty at 3:09, but the Reign held tough to force the shootout. Kytnar was again the hero for the Thunder, as he was the only player to score for either team in the shootout and the Thunder beat the Reign 4-3.

Carrozzi (3-5-2) stopped 28 shots to go undefeated in his last three starts, while Roy (5-8-4) made 26 saves for the win. Ontario continues to have trouble solving Roy, as all five of his wins have come against the Reign. Three stars: 1) STK- Mylan Kytnar 2) STK- Kevin Baker 3) ONT- Derek Couture
