Aces Close 2011 with Remarkable 4-3 Comeback Win

In a calendar year filled with incredible victories, the Alaska Aces saved one of the best for last. The Aces came back from a three-goal first period deficit to stun the Colorado Eagles 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday night from Sullivan Arena. The comeback completed a three-game sweep of the Eagles and extended Alaska's point streak to two games. The Aces listed their league best record to 23-5-5. The Aces would like to wish all of their fans and corporate partners a very safe and happy new year. They will return to action on Thursday night to begin a three game set with the Utah Grizzlies. Colorado came out and dominated play early in the hockey game. After being held to one goal in two games combined, the Eagles got two right away to open the scoring. Aaron Schneekloth opened the scoring on a shot from the blue line that got through a screen and past Adam Courchaine at 2:18 of the game. 91 seconds later Riley Nelson made it 2-0 Eagles with a goal off a faceoff. 6:44 into the game, Aces Head Coach Rob Murray called a time out trying to spark his team. However, the Eagles added to their lead later in the frame. Schneekoth added his second of the night at 11:27 on a redirection on a Colorado power play.

The Aces returned the favor in the second period with a pair of goals to get back into the game. Alaska's Jordan Kremyr scored on a power play at 6:52 to get the Aces comeback started. Then in the final minute of the period, Tyler Ruegsegger scored at 19:13 to get the Aces within a goal, making it 3-2 Eagles. The Aces outshot the Eagles 12-4 in the period.

Alaska continued their comeback in the third period when Bryan Miller pulled Alaska even with a one-timer on a power play at 8:35. Wes Goldie and Dan Kissel each assisted on the equalizer to extend their individual point streaks to a season-high seven games. After the teams remained scoreless through the rest of regulations and overtime, the game went to a shootout. Alaska converted on two of four chances with Nick Mazzolini and Goldie scoring, while Courchaine stopped all four Eagles shooters.

Adam Courchaine (8-1-3) earned the win, making 20 saves on 23 shots, and Kyle Jones (14-4-3) made 35 saves on 38 shots, taking the loss. The Aces power play went 2-5, while the Eagles went 1-3. Alaska outshot Colorado 39-23 in the game.
