Tonight's Matchup:
New Year's Eve saw an increased focus on defense from both Greenville and Chicago, as just eight shots were fired on goal between the two clubs in the first period. Each team scored one goal in the second period and one goal in third, forcing the game past regulation and into overtime. The Road Warriors started the extra-frame with a power play, and made use of it, striking against Chicago at 1:42 of OT to earn the extra point. It was the first matchup between the teams, and after tonight they will meet just one more time in the regular season this year.
Express Notes:
LW Chad Painchaud was held without a goal for just the second time on home ice since joining the Express... Chicago has played three straight games that have gone past regulation. All of them have ended in overtime, without needing a shootout, and Chicago is 1-2 in those games... D Darcy Campbell is playing in his 200th North American professional game tonight... The Express failed to skate away with a victory on home Saturday game for the first time this season. The Express are now 3-0-1-0 at home on Saturday nights... Chicago has given up the first goal of the game in five of their last six outings and are 1-3-2 in that span.
