Ontario Reign News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings and the AHL Manchester Monarchs, began their inaugural season Saturday evening in a 2-1 win over the Bakersfield Condors at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield, Calif.

The Bakersfield Condors (0-1-0, 0 points) jumped out to an early lead as F Matt Caruana netted a goal four minutes into the first period, but the Reign came back to drown out the home crowd when D-man Andrew Martens riffled the puck past the Condors goaltender on the Reign's first power play goal of the season. RW Geoff Walker and F Jon Francisco assisted Martens as the Reign came from behind to tie up the match entering into the second.

After a nearly scoreless second period of back and forth action, the Reign (1-0-0, 2 points) lit the lamp again on their second power play goal of the evening when RW Geoff Walker found the back of the net off of assists from RW Brad Mehalko and C Tim Kraus at 18:42. Walker's power play goal, his first professional goal, sealed the game for the Reign as the Condors were unable to answer back in the third with the Reign taking the win in their first-ever regular season match up 2-1.

Reign goaltender Jeff Zatkoff made his professional debut this evening stopping 29 of the 30 shots he faced in the win.
