
Reign Close Three-Game Series with Barracuda Tonight in San Jose

San Jose, CA - The Ontario Reign (28-11-3-1) fell to the San Jose Barracuda (20-16-5-3) 4-2 at SAP Center Wednesday evening, snapping a season-high nine-game unbeaten streak. The Reign fired a season-high 52 shots on goal.
With the win, Barracuda Head Coach Roy Sommer set a new AHL All-Time wins record with his 637th career victory, passing Fred "Bun" Cook who grabbed 636 wins from 1937-56.
The Barracuda jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead early in the first period as forward Bryan Lerg (1:35 on the power play) and defenseman Gus Young (5:59) beat Reign netminder Michael Houser (L, 22 saves on 26 shots) within the game's opening minutes. Forward Jonny Brodzinski put the Reign on the scoreboard and cut the lead in half at 6:59 slipping a shot between the legs of Barracuda goalie Aaron Dell (W, 50 saves on 52 shots). Forward Kris Newbury and defenseman Vincent LoVerde picked up assists. As the period wound down, the Barracuda reclaimed a two-goal advantage as forward Barclay Goodrow buried his team-leading 15th goal of the season on the power play at 14:26.
In the second period, the Barracuda made it 4-1 off a shorthanded breakaway goal by forward Ben Smith 1:22 into the frame. Searching for offence, the Reign rifled 21 shots on goal with Dell providing highlight-reel saves.
Early in the third period, Reign forward Justin Auger made it a two-goal contest with help from forward Jordan Samuels-Thomas and defenseman Kurtis MacDermid at 1:49. The Reign finished the game 0-for-4 while the Barracuda went 2-for-3.
