Checkers' Annual Pink in the Rink this Weekend
February 11, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Charlotte Checkers News Release
CHARLOTTE, NC - The Checkers' 10th annual Pink in the Rink weekend, presented by Novant Health, will take place Friday, Feb. 12, and Saturday, Feb. 13, as the team hosts the San Diego Gulls.
The goal of the weekend's games, both of which begin at 7 p.m., is to raise awareness and funds for the fight against women's related cancers, specifically breast cancer. In the nine previous years of the event, the Checkers and their fans have raised approximately $285,000 for various non-profits.
In addition to donating a portion of the ticket proceeds, the team will collect funds through the live auction of special pink jerseys that the team will wear during both games (a photo is attached to this release). The auction, which will take place immediately following Saturday's game, will benefit Novant Health Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center, Cindy's Hope Chest, Carolina Breast Friends, Shirley's Angels and Go Jen Go.
The Checkers will recognize the event's non-profit beneficiaries and cancer survivors throughout both games. Giveaway items include pink color-changing cups to the first 500 kids in attendance at Friday's game courtesy of Autobell and pink beanies to the first 2,500 fans to arrive on Saturday courtesy of Novant Health. Doors at Bojangles' Coliseum will open at 5:30 on both nights.
