Spokane Chiefs News Release

Chief's goaltender James Reid stopped 30 shots on his way to his first career victory and Spokane defeated the Portland Winter Hawks 5-2 on Wednesday night in the Spokane Arena.

For the third time in as many home games, five different player scored as Levko Koper, Drayson Bowman, David Conrad, Mitch Wahl and Blake Gal all found the back of the net. Bowman and Koper had a goal and assist and the Chiefs went 3-5 on the power play. Both of Portland's goals came on the power play as they were 2-6 on the man advantage.

Koper scored the only goal of the first period, a blind back hand shot from the left post at 7:42 on the power play, to stake the Chiefs to a 1-0 lead. Bowman's power play goal at 4:14 of the second extended the lead to 2-0. Portland pulled back within one at 10:19.

David Conrad's second goal in as many games at 4:02 of the third was set up off a face-off by Steve Kuhn who found his fellow rookie in the slot. Conrad's snap shot went glove side for a 3-1 lead. Twenty-seconds after Portland's second goal of the night, Bowman found Wahl on a break away for his team leading sixth of the season at 10:41.

Gal scored into an empty net on the power play at 18:53.

Reid was making his second career start after dropping a 2-1 shootout loss two weeks ago in Chilliwack.

Spokane now has points in nine straight games and sit four points on top of the idle Tri-City Americans for first place in the U.S. Division.

The Chiefs will play Friday at home against the Kamloops Blazers. In a special pre-game ceremony, the members of the 2008 Memorial Cup team will receive their championship ring.

Saturday night's game at Tri-City will be televised live on Comcast channel 78 at 7:00.

Tickets to all home games are available by calling the Chiefs office at (509) 535-PUCK or TicketsWest at (509) 535-PUCK.
