Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
KANSAS CITY, KS- The Sioux Falls Canaries earned their 40th win of the season on Sunday night after defeating the Kansas City T-Bones by the final score of 5-1 at Community America Ballpark.
Canaries starting pitcher Kris Regas put together a masterful performance in his final start of the season. The veteran left hander held the Kansas City offense scoreless over the first eight innings before giving up a one-out home run to Starlin Rodriquez in the bottom of the 9th inning. It was the only blemish of the night for Regas who picked up the complete game victory after striking out seven batters over nine innings.
The Birds took an early 1-0 lead in the top half of the first inning after Darwin Perez reached base on a one-out base hit and later scored on a J.C. Linares RBI single. The Canaries carried the 1-0 lead into the top of the 8th inning when Aaron Owen hit a lead-off homerun (3) over the wall in left. The Birds added another run in the inning when Perez scored on a bases loaded walk to make it 3-0.
Ethan Chapman put the game away for good in the top of the 9th inning when he sent a two-run homer over the wall in right. The blast was the 6th home run of the season for Chapman, and at the time, gave the Canaries a 5-0 lead.
The win was the 40th of the season for the Canaries and a season best, sixth straight win overall. The victory also guaranteed that the Birds would finish the year with an above .500 record (currently 23-21) under interim manager Shelby Ford.
The Canaries go for their seventh consecutive win on Monday afternoon with RHP Dylan Thompson (5-1, 3.00 ERA) taking the mound for the Birds in the regular season finale. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 PM, with the pre-game show hitting the airwaves at 12:45 PM on Sioux Falls Sports Radio KWSN. Visit sfcanaries.com for more information.
