Saints Break Attendance Record for Second Straight Year

ST. PAUL, MN - Following a year that saw the St. Paul Saints almost double their previous attendance record, 2016 was the encore that the Saints could only dream about having. With a crowd of 8,497 fans on hand at CHS Field on Sunday night, the Saints pushed their overall attendance for the season to 405,912, surpassing the franchise record of 404,528 set in 2015.

The record-breaking number is made more incredible by the fact that the Saints broke their attendance record in only 48 openings, and will have only 49 overall openings when the season ends on Monday, September 5. The Saints set the record in 50 openings last season. The Saints have averaged 8,457 fans per game, outdrawing the next closest competitor in the American Association, the Winnipeg Goldeyes, by just over 3,700 fans per game.

During the 2016 season, the Saints have drawn a capacity crowd in 46 of their 48 openings, including a franchise record 10,433 fans coming through the gates on May 29. At least 8,000 fans made their way to the ballpark in 37 of the Saints 48 openings, and more than 9,000 entered the stadium on 10 occasions this season.

Of the more than 350 teams in minor league baseball (affiliated and independent league) only 24 have drawn more fans this season than the Saints. All of the teams that have outdrawn the Saints are in affiliated ball and have had at least 15 more openings than the Saints. Only six teams have averaged more than the 8,457 fans the Saints have attracted this season, with all of them operating at the Triple-A level.

The Saints have drawn a 100% capacity crowd or more in 11 of the previous 23 seasons. In their 24 seasons, the Saints have drawn 6,881,325, including 810,440 in the last two seasons.

The Saints will play their final game of the regular season on September 5 at 11:05 a.m. against the Lincoln Saltdogs. They will return to CHS Field for the 2016 American Association Postseason starting on Saturday, September 10 at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are currently on sale for all three playoff games. Saints Box Office hours on non-game days are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. On game days, the Box Office will open at 9 a.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday and will remain open until 15 minutes following each game.
