November 22, 2014 - NBA G League (G League)
Grand Rapids Drive News Release
CANTON, Ohio - Willie Reed grabbed a lob pass from teammate Brandon Fields and threw down a thunderous dunk in the first quarter for his first basket in a return to the franchise.
Welcome to Grand Rapids, Willie.
It took four games, but the Grand Rapids Drive got the first win in team history on Saturday night and it took overtime to do it. The Drive beat the Canton Charge 102-98, despite trailing by as many as 20 points.
Reed, a 6-foot-10 center, had 24 points, 15 rebounds and four blocked shots.
Adonis Thomas led all scorers with 29 points. Lorenzo Brown and L.D. Williams had 11 points each.
The Drive (1-3) went on an 11-2 run to end the fourth quarter and force overtime, ending regulation tied 91-91. Williams scored the first basket of overtime and the Drive never trailed again.
Reed, who played parts of the past two seasons with the Springfield Armor, signed with the Drive on Friday. The Saint Louis University product averaged 14.8 points last year with the Armor, the team which was purchased and relocated to Grand Rapids.
One of the game highlights was the buzzer-beater by Thomas to end the half. He chucked the ball from three-quarters length of the court and drained it. Canton led 57-41 at halftime.
After beginning the season on a four-game road trip, the Drive return home for a three-game homestand. The home opener is Wednesday, Nov. 26 against the Los Angeles D-Fenders.
