Reed Garrett Named Player of the Week
June 9, 2014 - West Coast League (WCL)
Yakima Valley Pippins News Release
YAKIMA, Wash. - Right-handed pitcher Reed Garrett earned the West Coast Leage Player of the Week award this week after his dominant performance Friday night against the Wenatchee Applesox.
The Richmond, Virginia native overcame early struggles to throw a 7-inning gem, surrendering just 4 hits and 2 runs (1 earned), while walking two and striking out five in front of 3,209 fans at County Stadium.
Garrett got some great news to follow his performance, getting drafted in the 16th round (486th overall) by the Texas Rangers on Saturday. He has yet to decide whether to sign with the Rangers or stay with the Pippins and return to Virginia Military Institute for his senior season.
Garrett and the Pippins continue the opening homestand tonight at 7:05 p.m. against the Thurston County Senators in the first game of a two-game non-league series.
