Bells Take Series Behind Big Bats

Walla Walla Sweets News Release
WALLA WALLA, Wa. - Entering Sunday, the Sweets seemed ready and determined to earn the series win against the Bellingham Bells.
Unfortunately, the Bells had different ideas. Bellingham hitters proved to be too much for Sweets starter Alex Fisher (0-1), collecting a grand total of 22 hits while allowing just five en route to a 15-6 getaway day victory to take the series, two games to one.
Walla Walla scored first via two walks and an error in the first inning. The Bells then used three base hits and a Dustin Breshears sacrifice fly to take the lead 2-1 in the third, but the Sweets scrapped for a run of their own to tie it in the bottom half.
In the top of the fourth, however, the floodgates opened. The Bells erupted for a five-run rally behind four hits, a walk, an error and a sacrifice fly against Fisher, who allowed a total of seven runs, five of them earned.
Cooper Hummel drove home two with a double to left-center in the bottom half, and Jordan Frabasilio hit a towering solo home run to left to lead off the bottom of the sixth, but from there the Sweets would only manage one more run - and even then, they needed the help of two Bellingham errors to get it done.
Bellingham also pushed two runs across in the seventh and eighth innings, combining timely hitting with aggressive baserunning to put the game out of reach for the Sweets. A four-run ninth inning against Jake Campeau proved to be the nail in the coffin, as A.J. Konopaski quickly retired the side in the ninth to give the Bells the series win.
Overall, three players in the Bells lineup - Dallas Carroll, Walker Olis and Eric Webber - collected four hits each, and all except one in the starting lineup contributed at least one RBI to the blowout.
Though starter Grant Goodman surrendered four runs and five walks through four innings pitched, the Bells bullpen was once again solid. Dan Ludwig (1-0), Burk FitzPatrick and Konopaski combined to allow just two runs, one earned, on two hits over five innings.
The Sweets continue their season at 7:05 PM Monday when they face the Central Oregon Bucks in a single non-league game.
