Wilson Tobs News Release

FLORENCE, S.C. - The Florence RedWolves played its first game inside of Sparrow Field and came up with a 4-3 13-inning victory over the Wilson Tobs on Saturday night in front of 876 fans.

Florence (4-2, 17-17) opened the 13th with a lead-off single off the bat of Kyle Martin and was then lifted for Zephan Guyear who moved to second on a bunt and was able to reach third on a wild pitch by Aaron LaBrie (L, 0-2). Connor Bright came to the plate next a drove a fly ball to centerfield which was caught by Geoff Jimenez and was deep enough to bring Guyear home from third with the game-winning victory.

Wilson (4-3, 13-22) put a pair of runners on base in the 12th with two outs and was able to move those runners up 90 feet on a wild pitch. Zach Houhins followed and looped a ball back of second base that appeared to fall for a hit but, Kent Rollins made a diving stop to keep Wilson off the scoreboard.

The Tobs turned a two all tie into a one-run lead in the top half of the fifth inning as they plated a run against RedWolves starter, Derek Vaughn. Collins Cuthrell led off the inning with a single to left field but the ball was bobbled and allowed the Tobs third basemen to reach second base. Following a single by Zach Lee, the Tobacconists used a double steal to bring Cuthrell home with the run.

However, Florence came storming back and evened the score in the seventh inning off Tyler Bolton as Connor Bright began things with a double to right and after he was bunted to third, came in to score on a fielder's choice by Kent Rollins.

The Tobs trailed the contest 2-0 before they rallied in the second inning to knot the score in the fourth. Trey Whaley walked to start things for Wilson and scored on one batter later when Zach Houchins hit a ball off the pitchers glove and after recovering, Vaughn fired the ball down the right field line allowing Whaley to score. Phillip Williams followed later in the frame with a sacrifice fly to bring home the tying run.

Wilson will return to Fleming Stadium on Tuesday at noon when they take on the Edenton Steamers.
