Blowfish Win Third Straight

FOREST CITY, N.C.- The Columbia Blowfish used their bats Saturday night to top the Forest City Owls 9-4. The win keeps the Blowfish in a tie for first place in the western division of the Coastal Plain League.

The Blowfish scored four runs in the first inning to get out to a quick lead. The Owls eventually answered with three runs of their own to cut the lead to 4-3. The Blowfish answered with one in the fifth and two in both the seventh and eighth. The Owls scored their fourth run in the ninth.

Griffin Jones started on the mound for the Blowfish going four and two third innings giving up three runs on six hits while striking out six. Jeff Kinley pitched an inning and a thid of relief to get the win for the Blowfish. Joshua Knab, Adam Albers and J.D. Osborne also pitched an inning of relief each for the Blowfish.

At the plate Graham Saiko led the way going 2-5 with four RBI's. He launched a two run homerun to left in the eighth inning. Gabe Loweree also went 2-5 with two RBI's and a homerun. Tre-Von Johnson had the best night at the plate percentage wise going 3-5.

The Blowfish are off Sunday before returning to Historic Capital City Stadium Monday night to face the Fayetteville SwampDogs. First pitch is set for 7:05 and tickets are available at www.blowfishbaseball.com or by calling 254-FISH.

The Columbia Blowfish are in their seventh season at Historic Capital City Stadium and are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 51 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
