WILMINGTON, N.C. - On a humid evening in southeastern North Carolina, the Wilmington Sharks (3-3 second half, 19-14 overall) outscored the Morehead City Marlins (2-5 second half, 12-22 overall) by five runs in a 6-1 victory on Saturday night at Buck Hardee Field.

Wilmington scored one run in the first inning on an RBI-groundout from Lloyd Enzor. Then the Sharks tacked on two more runs in the second inning on two unearned runs to take a 3-0 lead.

The Marlins scored their only run of the evening in the fourth frame when Jarrett Higgins reached on a dropped third strike and advanced to third on a single off the bat of Geoff DeGroot. Higgins then scored on a double-play, making the score 3-1 in favor of the Sharks.

That score held until the bottom of the eighth inning, when Wilmington plated three more unearned runs to take a commanding five-run lead before the Marlins went quietly in the ninth inning.

Tim Keller (3-0) picked up the win in 7 1/3 innings, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out seven. Matt Ogden (1-2) suffered his second loss in as many decisions, throwing all eight innings for the Marlins and allowing six runs (one earned) and walking just one while striking out four.

The Marlins are off tomorrow before returning to action at home on Monday night against the Sharks. It's Sam Adams night and Military Monday presented by Golden Corral at Big Rock Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 as Matt Sutor has the live call on CPL WebPass beginning approximately 10 minutes prior to first pitch.
