Reds Sign Former Freedom Pitcher

Florence, Ky. - Steve Delabar, who pitched for the Freedom in 2008, has signed a minor-league contract with the Cincinnati Reds.

The right-hander has spent portions of the last five seasons in the big leagues, pitching 186.2 total innings with the Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays. Over his MLB career, Delabar has 232 strikeouts and a 3.95 ERA.

In 2013, Delabar was one of Toronto's most reliable relief pitchers, striking out 82 in 58.2 innings (58 appearances) and finishing with a 3.22 ERA. He was named an American League All-Star and struck out Buster Posey on five pitches to help the AL All-Stars to a 3-0 victory. This spring, he struck out eight and finished with a 2.35 ERA in 7.2 innings for the Blue Jays.

Delabar, a Kentucky native, posted a 2.84 ERA in four appearances (6.1 innings) for the Freedom in 2008 before being signed by the San Diego Padres organization.

The Freedom begin their 2016 campaign at home against the Windy City Thunderbolts on May 13th at 7:05 p.m.
