
Reds, Matthews Jr. Agree to Minor League Contract

CINCINNATI - The Cincinnati Reds and OF Gary Matthews Jr. have agreed to terms on a minor league contract. Matthews will report to Class AAA Louisville tonight.
Matthews, 35, earlier this season appeared in 36 games for the New York Mets.
In 2006 while with the Texas Rangers, Matthews was an American League All-Star and joined his father, Gary Matthews Sr., in becoming only the 11th father-son duo to play in an All-Star game.
Last season for the Los Angeles of Angels of Anaheim he produced 50 RBI in 80 starts in the outfield, including 46 starts in center field. In 2009 Matthews hit .358 with runners in scoring position and .395 with runners in scoring position and 2 outs, the sixth-best mark in the Major Leagues.
