Syracuse, N.Y. - The Charlotte Knights came away with a 5-2 win over the Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, in the series finale Thursday night at Alliance Bank Stadium. Syracuse (42-33) drops to 21-16 at their home ballpark this season. Charlotte (36-39) finished their eight-game road trip with a 7-1 record.

The Knights used a trio of two-out base hits to jump out to a 1-0 lead in the fifth. Buck Coats started the rally by lacing a single to right field. Coats moved up 90 feet to second base after Luis Rodriguez tapped a single to center. After Rodriguez, Tyler Flowers broke the tie by pounding a double to left centerfield. Rodriguez tried to score all the way from first on the play but he was gunned down at home plate by Chiefs' shortstop Pete Orr. Flowers now has 10 RBI in six games against Syracuse this year.

Charlotte piled on three more runs in the sixth to open up a four-run lead. With runners on the corners and one out, Charlotte second baseman Rob Hudson hit a ground ball back to the pitcher's mound. Chiefs starter Erik Arnesen's throw to first sailed over the head of first baseman Chris Duncan, allowing Stefan Gartrell to score on the play. After a passed ball by catcher Jamie Burke brought home another run, Charlotte first baseman Javier Colina hit a sac fly to right field. Hudson tagged up and scored easily from third to make it 4-0 Knights.

After being held scoreless in the first seven frames, the Chiefs used some late offense to collect two runs in the game's final two innings.

In the eighth, catcher Jamie Burke smashed a one-out single to center to score Chris Duncan from second.

Syracuse loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth against Charlotte reliever Greg Aquino. Aquino got Duncan to ground into a double play but Jason Botts was still to able to score from third, cutting the deficit to 5-2. Leonard Davis struck out swinging to end the game in the next at bat.

Charlotte starter Lucas Harrell goes to 6-6 with the win Thursday night. He tossed 6 1/3 scoreless innings, surrendering three hits and one walk while striking out six.

Arnesen was charged with the loss for Syracuse. He gave up four runs (one earned) and six hits in his 5 1/3 innings of work.

The Chiefs continue their eight-game homestand Friday night against the Pawtucket Red Sox. Syracuse's Jeff Mandel (2-3, 5.58) will get the start against Pawtucket lefty Felix Doubront (2-1, 1.08). First pitch will be at 7:00.
