
G-Braves Close Home Stand with 10-4 Win

The Lead: The Gwinnett Braves beat the Buffalo Bisons 10-4 on Thursday night at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA, to clinch a split in the four-game set. The G-Braves (34-40) boosted Atlanta rehab starter Jair Jurrjens to victory, putting 8 runs up in the first 4 innings against Buffalo (38-36). Gwinnett goes to 9.5 games back in 3rd place in the International League South, trailing division leader Durham. Buffalo is 3.5 games behind Syracuse in 3rd place in the North division.
It Was Over When: The G-Braves welcomed back Atlanta Braves rehab starter Jair Jurrjens back with some Major League run support from the get-go.
Braves Beat:
On the Mound: G-Braves RHP Jurrjens (1-1) made his third consecutive MLB rehab start for Gwinnett, going 6.0 IP and allowing 4 R/ER on 7 hits including a homer in the win. He also walked 1 and struck out 1 batter. Jurrjens threw 81 pitches, 53 of those for strikes, and faced 25 batters.
At the plate: Five G-Braves posted multi-hit games, including shortstop Diory Hernandez, who put up a 4-for-5 performance with 2 RBI and a steal on the day he was activated from Atlanta's DL and officially sent to Gwinnett. Third baseman Wes Timmons went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI and a steal in extending his on-base streak to a season high 17 games. Catcher J.C Boscan finished 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and second baseman Matt Young went 3-for-5. Even Jurrjens got into the swing of things, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The opposition:
On the Mound: Buffalo starter, RHP Dillon Gee (5-4), went just 3.0 IP and yielded 7 R/ER on 9 hits to pick up the loss.
At the plate: Center fielder Jorge Padilla was 1-for-4 with his second HR of the series and 2 RBI, while shortstop Russ Adams finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.
On Deck: Gwinnett hits the road for an 11-game road trip, beginning with a four-game series at Columbus tomorrow. First pitch for the series opener is set for 7:05 p.m. The G-Braves will send LHP Jose Ortegano (2-3, 5.11 ERA) to the hill against RHP Carlos Carrasco (5-3, 4.29 ERA) for the Clippers. The game will be broadcast on the radio at WDUN-550 AM.
