Hickory Crawdads News Release
Hickory Crawdad right hander Todd Redmond struck out a career high nine and the âDads parlayed four hits and a passed ball into three runs in a 3-1 win over Greenville Saturday night in front of 3,222 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium.
Redmond (6-4) pitched six innings and allowed just four hits and one walk while fanning nine. He was in trouble only once. The Drive loaded the bases with one out in the fifth inning but Redmond struck out RF Jay Johnson and got 2B Dominic Ramos to pop up to end the inning.
The âDads got on the board in the third inning against Greenville starter Mike Bowden. With one out 2B John Santiago singled. He moved to second on a passed ball and scored on 3B Eddie Prasch's single to give Hickory a 1-0 lead.
With two outs in the fourth inning Hickory extended the lead to 2-0 on RF Brad Corley's eighth homer of the season. Crawdad SS Brent Lillibridge's solo shot off of reliever Kyle Fernandes in the bottom of the eighth gave Hickory a 3-0 lead and put them within three outs of the first home shutout, and second team shutout of the season.
With one out in the top of the ninth Greenville LF Chris Turner hit his league leading 16th homer of the season to make it 3-1. Crawdad reliever Justin Vaclavik got back-to-back strikeouts to end the game.
Redmond (6-4) picked up the win and Vaclavik earned his sixth save. Bowden (4-4) allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits in five innings to take the loss.
Hickory pitching struck out a season high 14 batters in the game.
The two teams play the final game of the four game series at 6pm Sunday. Hickory right hander Kyle Perason faces Greenville southpaw Ryan Phillips.
