Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Today's Game: The RedHawks play their Pacific Coast League-leading eighth doubleheader of the 2013 season starting at 4:30 p.m. against New Orleans at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Today will make up for this past Sunday's rainout in New Orleans. In accordance with PCL rules, the RedHawks will still be the home team in both games.

Last Game: The Zephyrs held the RedHawks to three hits in an 11-0 win Thursday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. New Orleans broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the fourth inning on a RBI single by Jordan Brown and two-run home run by Kyle Jensen. The Zephyrs broke the game open with six runs in the eighth and two more in the ninth. RedHawks starting pitcher Jake Buchanan (1-2) performed much better than his line indicated and allowed five runs on eight hits in seven-plus innings. Zephyrs starting pitcher Brian Flynn (3-9) allowed three hits, walked three and struck out five in seven scoreless innings, earning his first win since June 2.

Today's Probable Pitcher: Philip Humber is scheduled to start the first game of today's doubleheader...It will be Humber's seventh start of the season with Oklahoma City, but first since June 30 in Nashville. His two most recent outings came in relief July 5 and July 9...Humber has split time between the rotation and bullpen. He has been more effective as a starter, posting a 3.86 ERA over six starts, compared with a 9.53 ERA in six relief appearances...He has allowed six earned runs in his last six appearances combined (19.1 innings)...In his last start against New Orleans, Humber threw five scoreless innings at Zephyr Field on June 19, but did not figure in the decision...He made 25 starts for the Zephyrs when the team was a Mets affiliate in 2007 and went 11-9 with a 4.27 ERA.

Eric Berger is slated to make his first start of the season in game two...Berger has made 29 relief appearances this season, and among OKC relievers, he is first in innings (39.2 IP) and second in wins (3)...The lefty's last appearance was Tuesday in Round Rock, when he retired all five hitters he faced...In three games against the Zephyrs this year, Berger has tossed three scoreless innings and allowed only one hit...Today will be Berger's first start since Sept. 2, 2012 when he was with the Columbus Clippers, the Triple-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. He joined the RedHawks following a trade with Cleveland on April 15.

Against the Zephyrs: 2013: 7-5 2012: 8-8 All-time: 128-117 In NEW: 59-57

Last night marked the second shutout by the Zephyrs against the RedHawks in their last three meetings. The Z's won 4-0 last Saturday in New Orleans...The RedHawks won the other two games of last weekend's series before Sunday's finale was rained out...The Zephyrs have scored 20 runs over the past three games against OKC. They had scored a total of 26 runs over the first nine games. In five of their meetings this season, the Zephyrs have scored one or no runs...Oklahoma City has limited the Zephyrs to a .227 average...Oklahoma City won the first series of the season between the teams in Bricktown, 3-1, April 25-28. The first game this year was a 15-inning, 4-four, 54-minute marathon on April 25 in Oklahoma City. The Zephyrs won, 10-8...The Zephyrs homered 27 times against Oklahoma City last season and have gone deep 10 times in 12 games this year.

Double Dipping: Oklahoma City is an even 7-7 in doubleheaders this season. The RedHawks have split five times, swept once (June 28 in Nashville), and been swept once (May 26 in Iowa). They have split all three of their doubleheaders at home this season (April 18 vs. Round Rock; June 23 & 25 vs. Omaha). Three of their 14 games have gone to extra innings, with the RedHawks winning all three. Today is the first doubleheader between the RedHawks and Zephyrs since June 16, 2010 in OKC. The RedHawks won the pair, 4-1 and 7-0.

By George: George Springer is currently on a season-best 14-game hitting streak, batting .447 (21x47) with seven home runs and 17 RBI. Since the streak began on June 28, he leads the PCL in all three major offensive categories and is tied for the most homers in all of the Minors. With the recent surge, he has also catapulted into a tie for second overall in the Minors with 26 homers this season, trailing only Ryan Rua of Low-A Hickory, who has 28. Springer has also swiped 28 bases and is in striking distance of becoming the first player in the Minors to go 30/30 since Grant Desme in 2009. Unfortunately, today is Springer's last day with the team before the All-Star Break. He will travel to New York tomorrow to play in Sunday's annual All-Star Futures Game.

Shutout Stats: Last night the RedHawks suffered their second shutout loss in six games and second shutout loss to the Zephyrs within their last three meetings. The 11-0 defeat was the second-largest shutout loss in RedHawks team history, only behind a 12-0 loss July 22, 2003 against Nashville. Thursday also marked the sixth shutout loss of the season for Oklahoma City. The RedHawks were shutout eight times in 2012.

All or Nothing: The RedHawks have started an interesting trend in their last four games. They shutout Round Rock July 8 before allowing 11 runs the following night. Oklahoma City then responded with another shutout win July 10, before allowing 11 runs in last night's series opener against the Zephyrs.

Irregular Donut Factory: The RedHawks have held their opponents scoreless in 34 of the past 40 innings, but in the six innings they have allowed runs, the opposition has scored at least twice each time, including a pair of six-run innings.

Men of Steal: Oklahoma City leads the PCL with 123 stolen bases this season after Ruben Sosa added another to the team total Thursday. Albuquerque ranks second in the league with 107 swipes.
