NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Memphis Redbirds (45-50) lost 7-6 to the Nashville Sounds (33-62) Thursday night at Herschel Greer Stadium. The loss gives the Sounds a 7-6 edge on the season in the opener of a four-game series. Memphis remains in second place of the PCL American Northern Division, two games behind the Iowa Cubs who dropped a 4-1 decision to Albuquerque.

Nashville scored five runs in the first two innings, but had to hold on for the victory. The win snapped a six-game losing streak for the Sounds.

The Sounds jumped on Memphis starting pitcher Nick Additon (6-5) for two runs in the first and tacked on three more in the second. Kentrail Davis tripled in the game's first run in his first Triple-A at-bat. He would score on a Hunter Morris sacrifice fly.

The Sounds added three more runs in the second inning, highlighted by Scooter Gennett's 2-run triple. He would later score on Josh Prince's single.

The Redbirds pulled within 5-4 in the fifth behind Brock Peterson's 22nd homer of the season and Greg Garcia's RBI double.

Nashville got what proved to be two crucial insurance runs in the eighth off Victor Marte. Blake Lalli and pinch-hitter Stephen Parker each contributed run-scoring doubles.

Adron Chambers tried to rally the 'Birds in the ninth as he took All-Star right-hander Rob Wooten deep with Kolten Wong aboard to make it a 7-6 ballgame. However, Wooten recovered by getting Tommy Pham to foul out to end the game.

Kyle Heckathorn picked up the win in relief (1-1). Wooten notched his 18th save of the season.

Chambers paced the Redbirds' 10-hit attack, collecting four hits and coming up a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. He currently is riding a 7-game hitting streak. Tommy Pham had a pair of hits and has now hit in eight straight games.

For game two of the series on Friday night, the Redbirds send left-hander Tyler Lyons (4-1, 3.42 ERA) to the mound against lefty Aaron Laffey (4-3, 5.61 ERA) in his Sounds' debut. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT from Nashville.
