Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
Sioux Falls, SD - Fargo-Moorhead hit five homeruns on Saturday en route to a 9-4 series-clinching victory over the Canaries at the Bird Cage.
The RedHawks scored a run in the first inning and added another on a passed ball in the third. The Canaries answered in the bottom half as Welington Dotel reached base on a dropped third strike with two outs before Mike Hart homered to tie the game.
But Fargo-Moorhead took the lead for good with a hot start to the top of the fifth frame. Following a leadoff single, the RedHawks hit three consecutive homeruns to take a 6-2 lead and added a solo shot an inning later.
Darnell Sweeney ripped an RBI triple in the bottom of the seventh and scored on a Wyatt Ulrich sacrifice but Fargo-Moorhead reclaimed a five-run cushion in the ninth inning with a two-run homerun.
Ulrich finished with two hits and Hart reached base four times as the Canaries dip to 13-21 overall. The Birds will look to salvage a game in the series when the two teams meet on Sunday at 12:05pm.
