RedHawks topple Sounds 12-1

The RedHawks exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning Monday and beat Nashville 12-1 to take their second straight.

Oklahoma is 1 1/2 games up on Round Rock and 2 1/2 ahead of Albuquerque in the division with 14 left.

Oklahoma out-hit Nashville 18-6, limiting the Sounds to a single run for the second straight game.

Kelvin Jimenez (now 3-6) pitched 5.2 strong innings in his second start since moving from the bullpen. Jimenez allowed four hits and one run on a solo homer by Nashville catcher Mike Rivera.

Drew Meyer opened the scoring with an RBI double in the third inning. Gerald Laird made it 3-0 with a two-run homer off losing pitcher Ben Hendrickson in the fourth. After Rivera's homer made it 3-1 after five, the RedHawks sent 11 men to the plate in the sixth and scored seven runs on seven hits.

Manny Alexander, Esteban German and Chris Richard all contributed two-run singles in the sixth. Meyer went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Richard, Laird and Ian Kinsler had three-hit games.

Oklahoma improves to 70-59 while Nashville drops to 70-60. The Sounds lead Omaha by five games in the American North.

The RedHawks, up 2-1 in the series, will send lefty A.J. Murray to the mound Tuesday in the series finale at 7 p.m. CDT. Lefty Jeff Housman is due to start for Nashville.
