(Round Rock, TX) - Former Express right-hander Travis Smith all but shut down the Round Rock offense over five innings at the Dell Diamond on Tuesday evening. In fact, at one point Smith retired eleven straight before the E-Train scored two runs in the sixth inning.

Ultimately, the game came down to the bottom of the eighth inning, with the Express stranding the tying runs in scoring position, while coming away with a 4-3 loss for a series split with the Isotopes.

Albuquerque put up three runs in the second inning off starter and loser Carlos Hernandez. They tacked on another run in the fifth inning, and until the sixth, Smith made the 4-0 lead stand up.

In the sixth inning, Charles Gipson singled to lead off the inning. He scored on an RBI triple from Brooks Conrad. Luke Scott struck out, but a wild pitch scored Conrad to make the score 4-2 Isotopes.

The Express, in the eighth inning, had two runners in scoring position with two outs, when 1B Carlos Rivera struck out on a 3-2 pitch from reliever Franklyn Gracesqui to end the threat.

The Express got a solo homer from 3B Royce Huffman to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning and tighten the score to 4-3 Albuquerque. But a diving grab by 1B Todd Sears spoiled a sure-fire Tommy Whiteman extra base hit, and Round Rock fell short with a 4-3 final.

The Nashville Sounds come to the Dell Diamond on Wednesday to open a five game series that ends the regular season in Round Rock. Right-hander Brandon Duckworth goes to the hill at 7:05 PM for the E-Train.
