Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

After a nearly two hour rain delay, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks snuck by the Joliet JackHammers 4-3 at Newman Outdoor Field on Tuesday night in Fargo. The win snapped the RedHawks' three-game losing streak and improved their record to 10-7 while Joliet dropped to an even 9-9.

The runs started right away when Joliet DH Juan Diaz hit an RBI single into right center to score C Nick McIntyre in the top of the first. The RedHawks responded in the bottom of the first with 3B Jeff Eure scoring Mathis with a single up the middle.

Lawson threw strong in the following couple innings but allowed a pair of singles by Nick Prosise and Doc Brooks that scored Dorian Rojas and Wally Backman Jr., putting the JackHammers up by two going into the bottom of the fourth. The RedHawks managed to answer with a pair of runs headed by a Zach Penprase triple, his first on the year, scoring 1B Kory Wayment. The RedHawks signed Wayment to a contract after placing him on the inactive list to start the season. He made his first appearance tonight against the JackHammers and went 1-4 scoring two runs as well. LF Boomer Berry hit a liner to left field to score SS Zach Penprase and tie it up at three a piece in the fourth. Lawson retired after five innings and tallied eight strikeouts.

The RedHawks squeaked one more run by the JackHammers in the bottom of the sixth when CF Joe Mathis singled to right field sending Kory Wayment home. The JackHammers were unable to muster a run in the final innings, but out-hit the RedHawks 9-8.

Game two of the three-game series will be played Wednesday at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo at 7:00 p.m. Pitching for the RedHawks is LHP Adam Rowe (1-0) and LHP Brian Forystek (1-1) will get the nod for the JackHammers.
