Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks completed a three-game sweep of the Joliet JackHammers 10-5 Thursday afternoon in front of a sellout crowd of 4,605 fans at Newman Outdoor Field. The win extends the RedHawks win streak to five-games.
The JackHammers got on the board in their first at bats. SS Kevin Rios doubled home CF Adam Klein to open the scoring and extend his hit streak to 22-games. In the RedHawks first, RF Mike Coles cracked a left-field flare and SS Zach Penprase worked a walk. Clean-up hitter, 3B Jeremiah Piepkorn, was plunked for the third time in as many games to load the bases. 1B Randall Simon lifted a sac fly to right-field to tie it at one.
The RedHawks batted around in the second, starting with LF Justin Justice's bloop single. Justice was pushed to second on a walk issued to 2B Carlo Cota. DH Alan Rick hit a bases-clearing double and C Jeff Stevens slapped an RBI single. Coles and Penprase teamed-up for a pair of singles and the RedHawks benefited from a base-scoring balk before 3B Jeremiah Piepkorn's sac fly. Simon hit the RedHawks second bases-clearing double of the inning to make it 8-1.
Rick led off the third with his second double of the game and CF Nic Jackson singled him home to give the RedHawks a 9-2 lead. Leading off the fifth, Rick homered to right-field for his 12th home run of the season to give the RedHawks a seven-run cushion.
RedHawks starter LHP Scott Fogelson (3-2) pitched 5.0 innings and fanned five to earn his third win of the season. JackHammers starter RHP Derek Barrows (2-1) suffers his first loss of the season.
The RedHawks open a three-game set against the Schaumburg Flyers tomorrow at Newman Outdoor Field. RHP Matt Mossey (2-0, 3.07) will get the ball for the RedHawks. Schaumburg's starting pitcher has yet to be announced. Game time is 7:02 p.m.
