
Redhawks Sweep Goldeyes

Fargo, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks recorded their second straight series sweep and ninth win in a row with an 11-4 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes Sunday afternoon at Newman Outdoor field in front of 3,051 fans. For a second straight day, Joe Mathis provided the pivotal hit of the game with a two-run homer to right to give F-M a lead that they would retain the rest of the way.
As in the first two games of the series, the RedHawks posted the first run of the contest, this time with a score in the bottom of the first. After singling to right and moving to second on a walk by Richard Austin, Tydus Meadows crossed the plate on a hit by Ruben Salazar.
Winnipeg tied the game at one run apiece in the top of the second as Scott Schade led off the inning with his tenth double of the season and scored as the next batter, Luis Alen, knocked a single to left-center.
With runs in the third and fourth innings, the RedHawks regained the lead, 3-1. Salazar supplied his second RBI of the contest to score Meadows from second in the third while Kory Wayment hit a sac fly with the bases loaded in the fourth to plate Adam Shorsher.
The Goldeyes evened the contest again with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. Following a single by Antoin Gray, Walter Young hit a laser over the right field wall for his 11th home run of the season. Winnipeg added another score to their total in the sixth to take a 4-3 lead.
From that point on, the game was dominated by Fargo-Moorhead as the RedHawks plated eight runs over the next two innings. In the sixth, F-M put five runs on the board highlighted by the two-run homer from Mathis that gave the RedHawks a 5-4 edge. With the bases full later in the inning, Shorsher smashed a double to right-center to score a pair of runs. Moving on to the seventh, the âHawks received an RBI-triple from Mathis while Meadows hit his eighth homer of the season on a two-run shot to left to cap the scoring in the game.
Doug Young received the win for the RedHawks' by pitching 3.1 innings in relief while allowing an unearned run on one hit. F-M starter Joe Sergent gave up three runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings of work.
Winnipeg starter Mike Kusiewicz was charged with his second loss of the season after allowing eight runs on 11 hits in 5.2 innings pitched.
