The Calgary Vipers won their fifth straight game with a 13-6 victory over the Edmonton Cracker-Cats in front of 3911 fans at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. The second largest crowd in team history got to see the Vipers sweep the Cracker-Cats and score double digits for the third straight game. The Snakes again trailed heading into the bottom of the seventh but rallied for the comeback win. In the three game series Calgary scored a whopping 42 runs on 45 hits.
Calgary got on the scoreboard right away in the bottom of the first with a Darryl Brinkley single and a Drew Miller hit by pitch. Carlos Duncan moved Brinkley to third with a deep fly ball and Jason Colson benefited by knocking in the game's first run.
The Vipers added to the lead in the bottom of the second with Nelson Castro's first homerun of the season. Jorge Tang followed with a nine pitch walk and after a Mitch Evans double, Manabu Kuramochi remained red hot with a RBI single to make the score 3-0.
Edmonton responded in the top of the third with a leadoff double from Kevin House and RBI single by Dave Martinez. After moving to second base on a groundout, Martinez scored when Ryan Radmanoivch singled.
The Cracker-Cats took the lead an inning later in the fourth with a two out rally. Chris Becker singled and Kevin House reached on a error by Castro to extend the inning. Martinez, George Sandel, and Brian Munhall all followed with RBI singles to go ahead 5-3 with three unearned runs.
A run was added in the top of the seventh with Sandel scoring on a Aaron McEachran RBI base hit to make the score 6-3.
The Snakes rallied in the bottom of the inning with a leadoff bunt single by Kuramochi. After reaching second on a throwing error and third on a passed ball, Kuramochi scored on a Brinkley base hit. Drew Miller followed with a double and Carlos Duncan tied the game with a two run triple. Colson gave Calgary the lead with his second sacrifice fly of the game and RBI number 61 to lead the league.
Insurance runs were added in the bottom of the eighth with a six run inning. Tang and Kuramochi walked for Brinkley who picked up his fourth hit of the game and second run batted in. Miller followed with a walk and Duncan and Colson drove in a run each with singles. With the bases loaded Kyle Nichols was hit by a pitch for a RBI, Castro hit a sacrifice fly, and Tang capped off the inning with a base hit to left field to push the lead to 13-6.
Miller with a hit and a walk extended his on base streak to 38 games. Duncan extended his on base streak to 34 games with a two-for-five, two run, three RBI performance.
Kazu Minami picked up his sixth win of the season going seven innings and throwing 121 pitches. Minami gave up four earned runs while only walking one and striking out three. Curtis Moenter picked up his second save of the year going the final two innings and giving up only one hit while striking one out.
The Vipers now head out onto the road for a three game series in Winnipeg. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday games are all at 6:05 PM (MDT). Thursday's game can be seen on SHAW-TV Channel 10.
