Schaumburg Flyers News Release

Kansas City, KS- A lack of offense combined with a shutdown performance from the opposition's bullpen gave the Schaumburg Flyers (5-5, 25-33) their second consecutive loss. The Kansas City T-Bones (5-5, 23-35) sent three relievers to the mound and all three combined for five perfect, shutout innings against the Flyers, en route a 10-3 victory.

Demetrius Heath got the game started on the right note for Schaumburg, as he knocked in a leadoff single to left field. The ball was booted by Kansas City left fielder Al Benjamin, allowing Heath to reach second base on the error. Two batters later, Christian Snavely brought Heath home with a sacrifice fly RBI to right field, giving the Flyers a 1-0 lead.

Alex Derhak led off the top of the 3rd inning with a walk, followed by a Heath double. With runners in scoring position, Mike Rohde hit a sacrifice fly RBI to right field to give the Flyers a 2-0 lead. Two batters later, and following a Pat O'Sullivan walk, O'Sullivan and Heath attempted a double steal. O'Sullivan's pause on his way to second base allowed for Heath to score the Flyers' third run, just before the Schaumburg first baseman was tagged out to end the inning.

With the Flyers up 3-0, it looked good for left-handed starter Drew Dickinson (6-6) and the men for Schaumburg. However, it looked too good to be true. The T-Bones scored two runs in the bottom half of the 3rd inning, and later tied the game in the bottom of the 5th inning. In Dickinson's last inning, the 6th, he allowed the go-ahead run to score, exiting the game down 4-3. The Flyers lefty went six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, walking four and striking out three.

After T-Bones starter Kenny Durost left after four innings of work, Kansas City relied on their bullpen to close the door on the Flyers. They ended up doing their job to perfection. The final 16 Flyers batters did not reach base, with Jimmy Hurst's one-out walk in the top of the 4th inning being the last time a Flyer batter got on base. Chris Krawczyk (3-2), who picked up the win on his 24th birthday, Lavon Lewis, and Rob Watson combined to throw five perfect innings with five strikeouts against the Flyers.

In the series finale, the Flyers will send right-hander Dan Grybash (6-2, 3.74 ERA) to the mound to avoid the sweep by the Kansas City T-Bones. First pitch is set for 5:05pm.

The Flyers will return to Alexian Field on Tuesday, July 24th to take on the Gary Southshore RailCats. Tickets are available for this game and can be purchased at the Alexian Field box office or online at flyersbaseball.com.
