Glen Shuts Out Jackhammers

GARY, IN-Gary SouthShore RailCats (7-4) right-hander Willie Glen (8-1) took a perfect game into the seventh inning and allowed one hit in a complete-game 4-0 shutout against the Joliet JackHammers (4-7) before 4,729 fans at U.S. Steel Yard on Sunday afternoon.

The RailCats scored one run in the third inning against Joliet starting pitcher Brian Forystek (1-2). Mike Reese (1-3) hit a leadoff double and went to third base when Dale Mueller (1-2) laid down a sacrifice bunt up the third base line. Forystek came off the mound and fielded the baseball trying to get the Reese out at third base. The RailCats left fielder beat out the throw to third base and Mueller reached first base on the fielder's choice.

David Detienne (0-4) grounded into a double play. Reese scored to give the RailCats a 1-0 lead.

Tanner Townsend (2-3) led off the fifth inning and hit a double against Forystek. He stayed at second base after Jermaine Allensworth (0-2) walked. Reese flied out to center field to move Allensworth to third base. He scored on an RBI single by Mueller to make it 2-0 in favor of the RailCats.

Forystek pitched six innings and allowed two runs on four hits while waking one and striking out one.

In the seventh inning, Gary got a leadoff double from Jose Yepez (1-3) against JackHammers reliever Matt Petrusek. Townsend hit a two-run home run over the left field wall to give the RailCats a 4-0 advantage.

Loose Gravel: Dennis Blackmon (1-3) got the only hit of the game for the JackHammers. He hit a single into left field with two outs in the eighth inning.

After a day off on Monday, the JackHammers return home Tuesday, July 24 against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at 6:05 p.m. Matt Smith (3-4, 4.67) gets the start for the JackHammers against Todd George (0-1, 6.17) for the RedHawks.
