FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks got a pair of solo home runs from 1B Ruben Salazar and a two-run bomb from SS Jeremiah Piepkorn, but it was a run-scoring passed ball that gave them a 6-5 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes in front of 4,032 fans on Thursday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo. With the win, Fargo-Moorhead improved to 61-32 on the season. Winnipeg dropped to 49-44 with the loss.
Fargo-Moorhead got on the board in the top of the first inning, with Piepkorn's home run leading the way. DH Jimmy Hurst added an RBI double in the frame to give the RedHawks a 3-0 lead.
The Goldeyes tied the game in the top of the third, getting three runs (one earned) off RedHawks starter RHP Billy Weitzman. RF Kevin West drilled a two-run single, while DH Tydus Meadows added an RBI double.
Salazar gave Fargo-Moorhead the lead back in the bottom of the third with a solo home run to right field to make the score 4-3. The Northern League's leading hitter struck again in the fifth inning, ripping a solo shot to left field for a 5-3 Fargo-Moorhead lead.
Meadows struck again in the top of the eighth inning, drilling a two-run home run to right-center that scored West to tie the game 5-5. Meadows finished the game with two doubles, a home run and three RBIs.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, RF Steve Mortimer walked to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by 3B Jeff Eure.
