Gary, IN - The Gary SouthShore RailCats showed their fans a lot of appreciation during their final regular-season game at home this year. Against the Schaumburg Flyers, the home team scattered 20 hits and scored 15 runs en route to a 15-4 victory on Thursday night at U.S. Steel Yard.

Gary (53-40) began its barrage against Flyers starter Justin Jordan (2-3) in the first inning. Four runs crossed the plate in the frame, with the help of sacrifice flies by 2B Eric McNamee (2-for-5, RBI) and 36)B Mike Rohde (2-for-4, 3 RBI). A solo home run highlighted the frame from Gary 1B Eric Blakeley (5-for-6, 4 RBI, 3 R), and the RailCats never looked back.

Gary starter Brian Forystek (6-6) held Schaumburg (30-63) hitters in check through the early innings. Forystek threw five full innings in the win, allowing no runs on two hits, two walks, and four strikeouts.

The RailCats scored 14 runs before Schaumburg plated even one. Highlights of the home team's scoring beyond the first inning came on a solo home run from CF Rob Marconi (2-for-4, 2 RBI), a two-run single by Blakeley, and a two-run single from LF Steve Haake (3-for-5, 3 RBI).

The first Flyer run was plated on an RBI double by DH Calvin Pickering (2-for-3, RBI) in the top of the sixth inning. A RailCat run answered in the bottom half of that frame to make it 15-1, but Schaumburg got two more in the top of the seventh. 1B Chris Gaskin (2-for-5, 2 RBI) smoked a double down the left-field line in that frame to plate two runs and make it 15-3.

Another run came home for the visitors in the top of the eighth on a Mike Rohde error at third base, but it was nowhere near enough on Thursday night. Gary ended the game just one run and hit away from franchise highs in each of those categories.

Schaumburg will now go back home to play its final series of the season at Alexian Field against these same RailCats. Schaumburg RHP Lonnie Patterson (1-3, 9.91) will start on the mound against Gary LHP Jeremy Plexico (10-3, 2.64). The action begins at 6:45 p.m., and you can hear it all on flyersbaseball.com.
