Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. â The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have re-signed 2B Brian Ward and RHP Joe Troilo and signed LHP Keith Strickland to contracts, the Northern League club announced today. All three players will be in Fargo when the RedHawks open training camp in early May.
Ward, 25, was the RedHawks iron man in 2002. He appeared in all 90 games for Fargo-Moorhead and batted .285 with 20 doubles, seven home runs, 50 RBIs and 48 runs scored. Ward led all Northern League Central second basemen with a .989 fielding percentage. He committed just six errors in 523 total chances last season and turned a league-high 75 double plays.
Following the season, Ward was selected by USA Baseball to play for Team USA at the 2002 Americas Series in Monterrey, Mexico. He batted .355 in the tournament with four doubles and four RBIs and was named to the All-Tournament team as he helped Team USA to the silver medal.
Troilo, 25, was a top middle reliever in the RedHawks bullpen last season before an arm injury in early July cut his season short. Troilo was 1-2 with a 2.73 ERA in 33.0 innings pitched. He struck out 18 batters and walked ten, while holding opposing batters to a .258 batting average against him. Troilo came to the RedHawks last season after spending two years in the Boston Red Sox organization.
Strickland, 22, made his professional debut last season with Lincoln. He appeared in six games for the Saltdogs, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits in 8.0 innings. Strickland did not record a decision and posted a 1.13 ERA. He struck out nine batters and walked three. He was acquired along with RHP Troy Silva for 3B Josh Patton in February.
