FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have signed RHP Steven Spurgeon to a contract, the Northern League club announced today. Spurgeon will be in uniform tonight as the RedHawks open a three-game series against the Kansas City T-Bones at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo.

Spurgeon, 26, pitched last season for the Sioux City Explorers of the American Association and the Southern Illinois Miners of the Frontier League. With Sioux City, he was 5-5 with a 5.24 ERA in 17 games (12 starts). Spurgeon pitched 79.0 innings and allowed 53 runs (46 earned) on 82 hits. He struck out 52 batters, walked 29 and held opponents to a .265 batting average against him. With Southern Illinois, Spurgeon was 1-1 with a 4.22 ERA in seven games (three starts). He pitched 21.1 innings and allowed ten runs on 22 hits with 17 strike outs and nine walks.

Spurgeon began his professional career in 2006 after signing with the Chicago White Six as a non-drafted free agent out of the University of the Pacific. In his career, he is 14-13 with a 4.90 ERA in 124 games.
