Schaumburg Drops Another Close One

Schaumburg Flyers News Release

Fargo, ND - The Flyers (5-15) lost another tough game at the hands of the Redhawks (13-5), 5-3, at Newman Outdoor Field. Again, the starting pitching continued to impress with Dustin Glant (2-1) putting together another strong outing. The righty threw five innings, giving up just two runs on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks. The Flyers ace also tossed a season high 118 pitches on Thursday night.

The bats looked hot at the start as Brandon Newton laced a two out, two-run double up the middle to give Schaumburg a 2-1 lead.

But the big inning did the Flyers in yet again as Ryan Gehring replaced Glant. The bottom of the sixth began with a walk to Kole Zimmerman, followed by a double by Cory Patton to plate Zimmerman. After Gehring retired the next two hitters, the Schaumburg lefty looked to be out of the woods.

That's when Mike Coles doubled down the left field line to score Patton and Carlo Cota sent a grounder into left field, which brought Coles home. The Redhawks second baseman was thrown out in a rundown after the hit, but the damage had been done, giving Fargo-Moorhead the 5-3 lead that it would not relinquish.

The Flyers head back to Alexian Field to kick off a weekend series with the Winnipeg Goldeyes. It's Fireworks Night, so bring the whole family for a show on the field and in the sky.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:45 PM. Join Alex Perlman and Chris Lobosco on 1410 WRMN and flyersbaseball.com for all the action as the Flyers take on the Goldeyes. The Schaumburg Flyers Pregame Show gets rolling at 6:15 PM with the game to follow.
