
Fielders Defeat Gary 5-3 in Home Opener

Lake County Fielders News Release
The Lake County Fielders got their first win as the home team, defeating the Gary SouthShore RailCats 5-3 in front of 2,044 at Carthage College in Kenosha, WI.
John Brownell pitched six and two thirds innings striking out four RailCats, giving up three runs off five hits. Ryan Falcon captured his second win, pitching to two batters while giving up one single and striking one out to earn the victory on the home turf.
Joshua Short got the offense rolling, lacing two solo home runs; one in the bottom of the second and one in the bottom of the eighth. Amos Ramon, Cody Strait, Kyle Higgins, and Hank Lanto contributed two hits each with RBI's going to Ramon, Higgins and Lanto.
The Fielders were trailing in the seventh inning when Cody Strait led off the inning with a double before Higgins, Lanto, and Ramon hit consecutive singles to take a 5-3 lead.
The Fielders look to capture their first series of the year as they take on Gary once again tomorrow night at 6:00 pm at Carthage College. Brandon Magee (2-2, 3.57) will take the mound against Fielders RHP Garry Bakker (1-2, 3.91).
