RedHawks Sign Pair of Rookie Pitchers

FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have signed RHP Josh Smith and LHP Matt Zoltak to contracts, the Northern League club announced today. Both players will be in uniform tonight as the RedHawks continue a series against the Lake County Fielders at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo.

Smith, 22, has pitched the last two years at North Dakota State University in Fargo. This spring, he was 1-0 with a 9.82 ERA in eight games. In 11.0 innings, pitched, he struck out ten batters. A native of Owatonna, MN, Smith will be the RedHawks starting pitcher tonight.

Zoltak, 22, was 2-4 with a 5.10 ERA at Florida Southern University in 2009. In 42.1 innings pitched, he allowed 43 hits while striking out 38 batters. Zoltak, from Philadelphia, PA, spent two years pitching at Clemson (SC) University before transferring to Florida Southern.

The Northern League roster freeze is tonight at midnight. All teams must set their rosters for the remainder of the season by that time. Players on the 7-day Disabled List and Inactive List are eligible to participate in the post-season, provided league requirements for these lists are maintained.
