Rockford RiverHawks News Release
WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Luis Alen hit a walkoff single in the bottom of the 13th inning on Tuesday as the Winnipeg Goldeyes rallied to beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 2-1, at CanWest Park.
Winnipeg moved past the RiverHawks into fifth place. The Goldeyes remain 2 games behind Joliet for the last Northern League playoff spot. The fourth-place Jackhammers beat Schaumburg, 3-2. Rockford is three games out with 12 to play.
Former major-leaguer Victor Diaz provided Rockford's lone run with a fourth-inning home run.
Alen scored the tying run in the seventh. He led off with a Texas League double, went to third base on a bunt single by Justin Justice and scored on Dee Brown's groundout.
In the bottom of the 13th, Rockford reliever John Muller (0-1) got into a bases-loaded, one-out jam. He struck out Juan Diaz, but Alen lined a single to left-center field, just out of the reach of diving center fielder Jason James.
Zach Baldwin (5-2) pitched three scoreless innings of relief for the win.
The series finale is at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The RiverHawks are home at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26 for Miller Lite/2nd Cousin's Dollar Beer Night, when they play Kansas City.
