RedHawks re-sign Peschel, add Adams to roster

FARGO, N.D. â The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have re-signed LHP Mike Peschel and signed LHP Brian Adams to contracts, the Northern League club announced today. Peschel and Adams are the 20th and 21st players to sign with the RedHawks for the 2005 season. The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks open training camp today at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo.
Peschel, 26, is coming off a season which he earned Northern League Rookie Pitcher of the Year honors. He was 7-2 with a 2.86 ERA in 17 games (16 starts). Peschel pitched 110.0 innings, allowing 37 runs (35 earned) on 96 hits. He struck out 66 batters and walked 36. Peschel was selected to pitch for the West Division team at the Northern League All-Star Game.
A Wahpeton, N.D. native, Peschel joined the RedHawks in 2003 after a stellar career at North Dakota State University. In 2003, he was 6-3 with a 5.11 ERA in 19 games (13 earned). He threw 79.1 innings and struck out 49 batters.
Adams, 27, joins the RedHawks after pitching in the Milwaukee Brewers organization for the Huntsville (Ala.) Stars of the Southern League (AA) in 2004. Last season, he was 3-2 with a 4.25 ERA in 52 relief appearances. Adams pitched 84.2 innings and allowed 47 runs (40 earned) on 92 hits. He struck out 68 batters and walked 26.
Adams was originally selected by the Boston Red Sox in the eighth round of the 2000 draft our of Liberty (Va.) University. He reached the Double-A level with the Red Sox before being included in a trade with the Brewers in 2003. In five professional seasons, Adams is 19-18 with a 3.47 ERA and nine saves in 174 games (13 starts). He has pitched 365.2 innings, allowed 355 hits and struck out 250 batters in his career.

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks open their 2005 exhibition schedule on Saturday and Sunday with a two-game series against the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Newman Outdoor Field. Saturday's game begins at 7:05 p.m., while Sunday's contest begins at 2:05 p.m. The RedHawks will host two other home exhibition games this spring. Fargo-Moorhead and Sioux Falls will face off on Sunday, May 15 at 4:05 p.m., and the St. Paul Saints come to town on Monday, May 16 for a 12:05 p.m. game.
